The first edition of the Global Youth Forum, GYF20, aims to bring together young entrepreneurs and professionals from all around the world to offer them quality training sessions to improve their skills, knowledge and motivation. The entrepreneurship training approach is expected to lead to new solutions and recommendations, helping participants learn from best practices and foster new ideas and innovation in the field of youth and cooperative entrepreneurship.
The Forum focuses on the vital role of young entrepreneurs and professionals, and their needs outside of traditional education and professional training. The Forum brings an innovative approach to learning tools and entrepreneurial objectives.
In March 2016, the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) entered into a partnership with the European Commission, ushering in a new phase of collaboration on strengthening the cooperative movement as development actors.
The ICA-EU partnership (#coops4devđ) aims to bring the cooperative model to the next level within international development policies and programs. It is built around activities focused on increasing visibility, enhancing advocacy, sharing capacity building, strengthening cooperative development networking, and supporting all these with evidence from exhaustive research.
International Cooperative Alliance Asia-Pacific (ICA-AP), the regional office of ICA, is a partner in the programme, driving the actions, in collaboration with members, civil society organisations, international institutions, and the EU.
The GYF includes numerous training sessions that can be applied in all the political, social, cultural and economic topics related to youth and cooperative entrepreneurship. The key themes of this Forum are as below:
#GYF20 focuses on youth as a key actor of change: Youth entrepreneurship is seen as one of the solutions to address key 21st century challenges, such as access to quality employment, social exclusion, economic exclusion, access to basic services, and so on. Youth entrepreneurship in the cooperative business model promotes peer training and innovation to support young professionals.
#GYF20 uses cooperatives to strengthen youth entrepreneurship. The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) defines cooperatives as people-centred enterprises, owned, controlled and run by and for their members â to realise their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations. Cooperatives bring people together in a democratic and equal way. Whether the members are the customers, employees, users or residents, cooperatives are democratically managed by the âone member, one voteâ rule. Therefore, cooperatives offer a sustainable and democratic alternative to current business and economic systems, and problems of unemployment and exclusion.
In keeping with the cooperative values, #GYF20 provides innovative training and peer-to-peer learning among co-operators and young entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship is a valuable skill for the youth, and #GYF20 aims to support it through creative thinking, and investing in the development of skills, knowledge, networks and motivation for the larger social benefit across regions.
#GYF20 is aimed at promoting innovative thinking and business development tools. The next generation will lead economic activity, business ecosystems, employment growth and civic engagement. These training sessions will give them access to tools and methods to further develop their entrepreneurial objectives.
